About Catherine Aquino, L.Ac., Dipl. CH (NCCAOM), FABORM
Catherine Aquino graduated with honors with a Masters of Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine from Yo San University in Los Angeles, California. She is a Diplomate in Chinese Herbal Medicine designated and certified by the National Certification Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and licensed by the California Acupuncture Board. She is also certified as a Fellow of the American Board of Oriental Reproductive Medicine (ABORM).
At her private practice in the Toluca Lake/ Burbank area, Catherine uses TCM to improve one’s quality of life by not only focusing on the physical body but also on an individual’s mind and spirit so that they may feel the vitality of life she believes our souls are meant to experience.
BACKGROUND AND EDUCATION
Soon after graduating from California State University, Northridge with a B.S. in Finance, Catherine’s life path took her in a different direction than she had initially anticipated. The loss of her father was a key turning point in her life and a strong interest in the medical profession developed while caring for him.
She began researching programs in Chinese Medicine and discovered an intensive four-year program at the highly reputed Yo San University in Chinese Medicine. Yo San University was founded by Hua-Ching Ni, a well-known author/teacher and healer, and his sons Dr. Maoshing Ni and Dr. Daoshing Ni. These doctors are part of a lineage of Masters from China who date back to the Han Dynasty. Catherine has felt very fortunate to have them as teachers and clinical supervisors during her four years of academic studies and clinical internships.
Yo San university placeed an equal emphasis on the practice of both Western and Eastern science. Although not widely known, acupuncturists in the State of California are considered primary care physicians. This places a large responsibility on acupuncturists to be well versed in both eastern and western medicine. She also appreciated the school’s inherent Daoist philosophy which agreed with her personal values.
Catherine currently holds a Masters of Science degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine from Yo San University and is a Diplomate in Chinese Herbal Medicine from the National Certification Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. She is also certified as a Fellow of the American Board of Oriental Reproductive Medicine (ABORM).
CONTINUING EDUCATION AND ASSOCIATIONS
The State of California requires 50 hours of continuing education every two years to maintain good standing of your California Acupuncture License. Catherine considers herself a forever student so this requirement is easily met.
Catherine has advanced training in reproductive medicine and has studied and interned with Randine Lewis, fertility expert/author of “The Infertility Cure” and “The Fertile Soul”. Catherine is also a charter member of  TM program and she feels she has gained invaluable experience from working with and observing Dr. Lewis’ mind-body-spirit approach to  .
Catherine has worked with Niravi Payne, author of The Whole Person Fertility Program on both personal and professional levels and has found this work life changing. She also has advanced training in reproductive medicine with Dr. Daoshing Ni and Jane Lyttleton and other highly regarded practitioners in Chinese Reproductive Medicine.

SPECIALTY ~ FERTILITY
Catherine chose TCM because it is a complete health care system that strives to balance the body, mind and spirit. In the last few years she has discovered that she has a passion for treating women with health and gynecological concerns and helping couples that are facing fertility challenges. She enjoys taking continuing education courses in gynecology, endocrinology, fertility, musculoskeletal pain syndromes and diet/nutrition. She has also effectively treated patients with problems ranging from arthritis, back pain, carpel tunnel, fatigue, depression and headaches to adjunctive therapy for patients undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatment.
